ok well i have decided to network my two computers and i installed the ethernet cards in both expect one doesnt have a connection for the wire which comes off so it constantly tells me that the cables are unplugged when they arent but my computer says the cards are connected and working properly is there any way 2 fix this?

Woa woa woa. If the cables are broken, buy new ones? Are you sure you're using crossovers?

(I could be waaaaaay off here)

hmm perhaps i should have explained myself better! yea the cables r crossover thats all ok. its the small wire which comes from the network card to the motherboard that is the problem. there is nowhere 2 plug it into the motherboard

Networks cards don't have wires connecting to the motherboard?????

Meh. Even if it does, there should be somewhere for it to go... but I stand by that you're looking in the wrong place :p
