Question problem with Linksys Wireless-G base station

I tried out the base station just now but got a problem. When I connected my cable modem to the router, the "Internet" indicator LED kept blinking non-stop. When I connected the Wireless-G USB adapter to my PC, I checked the signal strength and it was extremely weak. Bout 1 bar. Anyone got experience with this and can help me out?

Ok. First question, what linksys router is it. Second question how far from your pc is the router? If there is any walls or things of this sort between your pc and your router. Also you can check www.linksysinfo.com for some 3rd party firmware to increase signal strength as well as other stuff. I use HyperWRT 2.1b1 for my wrt54g.

I'm using the WRT54G. There's a wall between the PC and router. I've solved the signal strength problem but not the cable modem one.
