Default Network Problems

I have the linksys cable gateway which is a modem and router in one. It has givin me problems since i bought it. I'm also using a linksys USB wireles s network adapter that worked great on a previous network. My wireless connection is always poor to very poor but when wired it is excellent to very good. it becomes so slow that i can't even open web pages and lose my connection every 5-10 minutes. I live in an apt complex and can pick up 5-8 different wireless networks at any given time and i have limited space so my router is near my tv because i only have one cable coming into the apt. I moved it into my closet and away from the TV and it drops less often but almost every 15-20 minutes even though my comp is 12 feet away from the router. Am i getting too much interference? Will a hi gain antenna, range booster help?

I think so too, just wondering if anything will help. I've changed the channel and tried about 4 different ones but that hasn't worked either.
