Thumbs down Netgear Router Problem

At my grandmothers', every 10-15 minutes the connection will drop (well it'll stay connected to the router but it'll go to local only and won't be able to resolve any internet addresses) and I need to go to http://192.168.1.1 and then it works fine. The speed ranges from 2kb/s up to over 200kb/s and it's strange how much it drops. I'm not sure if it's the ISP or the wireless connection.

These are speed tests from different locations. I have no idea why I did so many or why the England one is so much slower but...

What could be making me have to go to the 192.168.1.1 page just to get the router working fine again? [I don't need to click anything there; just be logged in]. It's a NetGEAR router. The firmware is V2.0.13_1.0.13NA

I had a similar problem and managed to partly fix it by reinstalling my wireless drivers. Speeds improved somewhat and remained stable, and then suddenly it all ironed itself out and has worked perfectly ever since.

This may or may not work for you though.

Well Australia is further away and download speed isn't affected that much to there. The closest server was the one in Maine but it wasn't the fastest.

It's an unsecured network. I haven't even bothered to put security on it yet but I checked the logs periodically and no other devices were connected anyway and nobody in the area has a computer.

But I've tried it with my better card and that wouldn't even pick it up. I think I have the latest drivers for the internal card... in fact I don't even know what kind of wireless card it is.

Good suggestion. You also may want to try Microsoft's "Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool". This will help you decide if the issue is on your ISP's side or yours.
Here's the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/default.mspx

You'll need to use IE for the tool to work.
