Need more wired ports on Router

I have a dlink Wireless N Gigabit router. Works great but I need more than the four ports on it. Can I come out of one of the four wired ports on it and go into a wired switch and have say the 5 ports in the switch and the three in the route for a total of 8 wired ports? Or can I go from the cable modem to the five port switch and go out of it to the router and use the ports on the router and switch

I need Wired
1) My computer
2) My second computer
3) My kids computer
4) My Dish Network Dvr
5) My second Dish Network Dvr
6) My kids Xbox360

I get Wireless:
1) My Wifes laptop
2) My kids WII
3) My Iphone

You will come out of Port 4 (as an example) and connect to your switch. Then you will have 8 ports available. You have to go to the router first otherwise you'll take away the capabilities of Interent Sharing from the router.
