first off, lemme say that im not any kind of computer specialist so i might not kno all you big computer words. :D but ok.

im trying to transfer files between two computers. its a big-ass load of files. about 2gigs. and theyr both running windows xp home sp2. im trying to connect the two with a crossover cable.

i have them both in the same ip address range(192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2) and i left the submasknet as default(255.255.255.0) and preferred dns same om both computers(192.168.1.1). on the 192.168.1.2 laptop, i have the default gateway as 192.168.1.1. and its blank on teh other computer. and theyr on the same workgroup(1158HOME).

then i go the windows explorer or w/e its called(my computer). andi click on "my network places" then i click on "view workgroup computers" and it loads for a long time. wen its done all i see is the computer taht im on(not the other computer). i tried the same on both computers, with the same results.

what makes me more frustrated si that ive done this before and it worked. and i didnt change any settings at all and now it doesnt work.
anyway, please help. thanks.

well, umm. you might change the computer name by right cliking on my computer then computer name and type a random description to both computers. it might help to restart both computers after this, but idk if the reboot will help at all.

It looks like there is something wrong with one of the cables, try pinging the other machine and see what your results are. Incase you dont know how to ping?:
Start then run, type in cmd and then type ping [other computers ip address]

And see what your results are.
