So i tried to install the DD-WRT custom firmware and all went well till it didn't want my internet to work through my router. so i spent like 20 minutes trying to find a revert process. all in all one big headache. any one have experience with this?

Not sure with your model (might check on dd-wrt wiki) but did you follow the steps exactly on flashing it? There are models where you have to flash it with the most basic version of dd-wrt or some other firmware before flashing it with a more advanced version of dd-wrt. There are ways to revert back to linksys firmware ... I think you need to flash with open-wrt or something like that in order to do so.
Are you thinking the flashing didn't go well and is causing issues with internet connectivity? Were you able to access the internet immediately after flashing and configuring or not at all? I don't know your skill level in configuring routers, but is there a chance you're not configuring it correctly? Would you be willing to pm me screenshots of your configs or post them in this thread? Some ISP's require routers to have username and password implemented for PPPoE, could this be the case for you?
I'd like to help, but need some more clarity. Plus I don't want you to give dd-wrt a bad rap. :) I use it and it works great in my network. Let me know if I can help.

Well i've heard good things about DD-WRT its just i have the first version of the WRT54G when they decided to take half the memory out for some reason so i have to do some special install of the micro version of DD-WRT. and well the stock firmware works just fine on stock settings and the DD-WRT didnt want to on stock settings so i looked around the GUI for a little while and everyhting seemed to be the same as before in the stock firmware so i did a few power cycles and nothing. so i spent like 20 minutes finding a revert. i think im just better off buying a better router that can handle the full DD-WRT firmware

I use DD-WRT on my v.4 or is it 3? oh well..

Yeah it can be a bit confusing, your internet should work. Have you tried flashing to another version?

Make sure you followed these steps to the T.

EDIT: To revert back to the normal firmware:

1. Download [http://www.bitsum.com/files/vxworks_revert_v02.zip] and extract.
2. Download the latest Linksys firmware for your router from http://www.linksys.com.
3. In the DD-WRT Administration/Firmware? Upgrade tab, select and apply the openwrt-wrt54g_v4-squashfs.bin firmware you extracted in step 1.
4. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR ROUTER. DO NOT POWER DOWN YOUR ROUTER. IF YOU DO, YOU MAY/WILL BRICK YOUR ROUTER.
5. After a few minutes (have patience) your router will reboot itself and the VxWorks boot loader's Management Mode will be engaged. You can visit it at http://192.168.1.1. If the browser doesn't respond, WAIT LONGER. Do not power off your router.
6. In the Management Mode, select and apply the Linksys firmware you downloaded in step 2. DO NOT apply vxworks killer instead, even if you want to go back to linux again right away. You must first apply a Linksys firmware to re-initialize the flash before you can go back to linux.
7. Power cycle the router after you see 'Success'.

I may have done something wrong. i will try that when i get home. i followed some other tutorial that was way less cpmplicated then that tutorial so it may have been bad flash or something
