Default internet problem

im running 5.40 mps of internet speed on cable modem and the net just stops working on me. I do have a router its a d-link ebr 2310 model with a arris modem with a new hp computer nothing on it and it takes about 3-5 sec. just for google to come up. I have ran disk scan, defrag, and clear history still slow what can i do now.

The possibilities are endless..

What are the speeds if you use another computer? What browser are you using? Is anything else on the computer slow?

same speed on both computers everything on the computer works fast but not the internet im using IE 9 its up to date

Well 5.4 isn't very fast. Try a ping test.
Start>Run>CMD>in the black box type ping www.google.com

See how long it takes for the replies to come back.

speed test is 44ms to google but google always comes up fast but if you go from google to yahoo mail its like 15 sec sometimes and 2 sec another also does anyone know of a good free reg, mal, and virus program

I get 15ms to google. So to me, it sounds like it's just your internet speed that is slowing you down.

You could always try Firefox to see if it's slow too.

Malwarebytes AntiMalware is a great program. HERE from CNET.
Microsoft Security Essentials might be worth looking into as well. I've had some luck with it.
