internet help

there are two reasons to use proxies, for the most part believing that you;re hiding behind a proxy server is not good privacy, most hold logs.

most open proxy servers are well used, so actually slow down your connection speeds.

A second reason for using a proxy server is that you can configure a home proxy server to block specific content (like web filtering) and tell it to cache content.

this will make it seem like your connection speed increases since when you come to a site such as this a lot of stuff, (pictures) etc will come from your networked proxy server at LAN speeds (100Mbps or 1000Gbps) rather thabn your Broadband.

with a combination of blocking large files that you may not want to see (large flash adverts for example) and caching content from frequently visited sites you can make it appear as though your internet is faster.

(think of it as a very old trick that we used to use in the days where a whole office needed to share a 1Mb ADSL line, or worse just sharing an ISDN line.)

can it make your connection feel faster for regular and frequent browsing -yes.
should you need to jump through a load of hoops spending time and investing in equipment etc to improve a poor service. -no

Thank you for the detailed breakdown of it, I won't be useing it thanks :)
