Help with thick walls in the house?

I, along with 9 other friends have just moved into a student house at university. The internet supplied is of a sufficient speed, but people the other side from the house have problems receiving a signal strong enough to get a good connection due to the house being old and the walls being solid and thick.

I know we currently have a g router and was wondering if buying an n router would solve this problem?

Also, would it be possible to then use the old g router as a bridge of some kind somewhere else in the house if it was needed?

In theory, yes an N router will give you better range. But in practice it's hard to be 100% certain until it's up and running. I also believe that most routers can act as bridges to the network.
