I've never actually used one before, but from what I've heard they are faster than wifi. Not sure about energy efficiency.

Read the other post about powerline adapters. I can use my Cisco E4200 router and a
Newegg.com - TRENDnet TEW-684UB Dual Band Wireless N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 450Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2-RADIUS, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, WPS I get a straight 450Mb/s. That's better than a powerline adapter by more than double. I WAS going to use a powerline adapter from my house to my barn, but as it turns out my E4200 reaches all the way from my house to the barn, which is a considerable distance. This is also tested with a plain internal laptop wireless adapter, not the trendnet. I haven't had time, but I will set up the trendnet adapter out there, I bet I'll get 3 bars. |
