Default Gigabit issues

Hello I'm in the process of switching my network to gigabit and I have ran into a problem. I just installed a new gigabit nic into my freebsd 7.2 server so that it could run at gigabit speeds. When transfering files from it to my computer (that is running ubuntu) It starts out really fast (~130mb/s) and then rapidly slows down to about 8mb/s. This is slower than it was before I got my new nic and switch. I think I can rule out my computer since I can transfer files to my other computer in the garage at a steady speed so I'm guessing it has to do with the server. I've set the speed to 1000baseTX and set it to full duplex. It's running a static ip and everything looks right. What could be causing these issues? My network is running cat5e and I have a netgear gigabit switch. Also this is the nic that I ordered.
