It is almost impossible to quantify. Perhaps millions.

Any company that has a domain network has a domain name server.

You are confusing name servers with root name servers (which has 13 root name server addresses by the way, i.e., A-M, but not 13 servers).

Don't want to torrent?!?!? Linux is like the ONLY legal torrent out there, I love using legal torrents whenever I can.

What flavor are you looking for?

FTP://FTP.redhat.com/pub/mirrors

That's the only one I can remember. May not work anymore, but I can't test as I'm at work and only have my ipad.

Check out this page, pick your flavour, and follow the link. Most have several ways to download ISO. Linux is friendly like that.

Personally, I recommend Debian over Redhat.

(Debian is what Ubuntu and Mint are built on)

I would say Debian systems have a better community behind them for home use (I use Mint myself), but I do prefer Redhat based (i.e. CentOS) systems for server deployments - but that is really just because I know my way around the necessary configuration tools/files/directories and the forums for server configuration tend to cover more redhat based systems (probably down to legacy, but whatever the reason it is what it is).

I doubt there is much difference from a functionality point of view, just make sure you understand the one you choose.

It probably has something to do with cPanel/WHM's popularity, which works better with Red Hat-based distributions, and so more literature for servers are written with Red Hat-based distributions in mind.
