Connecting 2 Computers Using An Ethernet Cable

If I were to connect 2 computer using an ethernet cable, could I have both of them connected to the internet if one computer is plugged into another that is connected to a router?

If so will the computer going to the router have to actually be logged on or just turned on to allow the other computer to connect to the internet?

Why not plug each pc into the router? Assuming that you do in fact have a router, there should be at least 4 ports on the back for the purpose of hardwiring up to 4 pc's directly.

If you just want to connect two pc's , get a cross over cable .

if u have a router then plugging both computers in the router is the easiest thing to do.
