I did too. When I first started using satellite, it was download only via the satellite link. Upload was via 56K dialup. Not the best solution but it worked. After a couple of years like that they came out with 2-way satellite and I got to drop the dialup connection.

The 1-way DL solutions was the only one I used and the UL varied from a 65k dial up to 128k ADSL at different times latest was 10 years ago. Was expensive, but the only way for me at the time to get high DL speeds. I still own the equipment connected to the dish to watch some satellite channels. The card is actually for TV channels that supports IP. There are ways to watch subscribers' traffic and grab what they download too.
