Default Yet another sound card question

I'm planning to purchase a Turtle Beach Six channel sound card.I need the optical out for digital transmission. Will the installation of this sound card run in parallel with my current plain old sound card ? Do I need to uninstall the original sound card ?

It depends I think. Is your current sound card integrated or no?

I believe it is attached to the mother board. This is a very inexpensive Dell 3000.

Normally speaking the PCI slots will override the bios setting so that you don't have to do anything to the onboard sound. But being a DELL it is proprietary and will probably have to enter the bios and find the onboard sound and change it to PCI or disabled. It may actually require you to make a physical jumper change on the motherboard. Those are the options.

Does this mean physically disabling the motherboard sound card.I'll take a look inside this weekend.I am installing a firewire board to download movies on my canon camcorder. I'm looking at the Turtle beach six channel, it gives me optical digital outputs. For 29.00
