How much could i clock the 920 to safely?
I have no idea. There hasn't been one OC'ed in this forums yet. From the quick look I took on google, you might be able to reach 3.8+GHz if you know what you're doing. I would say you can definitely get 3.6GHz. You might have to consider upgrading the PSU I listen earlier to something with more watts if you want to make sure you get the most out of your CPU.

I was thinking about this for the case:

BTW, (stupid questions) what is the GPU? Graphics Processing Unit? or Graphics Card? lol

Whoops, I have to get back up to date

Anyway, I like what Joga's got there. With that $500, you'll need a case, power supply, DVD burner, OS, and hard drive if I'm remembering everything. Here are my suggestions:

Case:
Lian-Li $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112099

PSU:
850W Antec $125 (Wow, that's a really good deal. 72A on +12V rail. Will futureproof if you add a second 4870X2)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371009

DVD burner:
Samsung $25
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151171

Vista Home Premium: $80 (Wow, this got cheap)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116488

Hard drive:
640GB WD with 32MB cache $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136319

That's about $400 right there, perfect.

Yeah. One thing I overlooked. What games are you playing? If it's like WoW or something we're overdoing it.

For a HDD, this is what I recommend: Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB. Not only rated the fastest 7200RPM, but also $5 cheaper
