Default XP Takes ages to shut down

Hello ppl.
Just a quick qestion my windows xp takes absolutely ages to shut down, is there any way i can get around this?
PS: It is winoze xp home edition

what windows does when it shuts down, is it closes every program in the system tray in which to change what programs run when you start the computer type "msconfig", and puts the hard drive read/write in a place that is not writen on.
