Default XP hard drive used as slave on vista

can i use my old xp pro formatted hard drive on my new vista computer as a slave drive without losing any of my data or reformatting?

yeah u can just pop it in as long as the jumper is set to slave then it will automatically boot into vista

It may not need to be set as slave if the primary drive is SATA. If that's the case and the only drive on the IDE chain is your old XP drive, set it as a master, and set BIOS to boot from the SATA drive before the IDE drive.

yeah my new hard drive is sata
so how would i go about setting the sata drive to boot first?

Sort of hijacking this, but say both of his HDDs where SATA. How would he go about fixing the problem?

You'll probably need to take ownership of the files/folders on the XP drive to be able to access the data
