i finally got it working!!! but i got another problem now when i try to boot off of the windows xp disk, the windows setup says that there is no hard drive installed (?!?!?). which is really weird...

You need to wait when it 1st starts up
Press the key to install the SATA drivers from a floppy disk. And windows will continue

how do install the SATA drivers from a floppy? do i make a diskette?

yes you make a disklette. Drives should be on the Cd of your motherboard. On my asus there is an utilitie that makes the floppy for me
