Default Would this Upgrade be worth it ?

Hello, I am vaguely thinking about making the CPU/MOBO/RAM upgrade for my custom rig.
This is my current setup

MOBO - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138123

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115041
OC'ed to ~3.3

RAM - CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145194

GPU - Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129114

All powered by ENERMAX INFINITI 720W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194021

Now, the upgrades would be following

CPU - Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115211

MOBO - ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131386

RAM - OCZ Platinum 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000(PC3 16000) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227310

My question is, would I see big leap performance-wise ? The PSU should still be able to give enough juice to all the new parts correct ? I know the 4870x2 might be bottlenecked by the current Q9550, therefore goin to the i7, would there be a significant difference ?
LAst but not least, please give me you true opinion on if this upgrade would be smart at this time considering technology comes and goes.
Thank You.
Luke

I'd personally say wait a bit. Whilst your current setup isn't the absolute latest and greatest anymore, it's by no means awful and unless you're running some very intensive applications it should be fine for most things you throw at it for a few years yet!

Hold your horses.

Since you have a card like the HD 4870 X2, I take it you have a high resolution monitor (Something 1920x1200+). At those high resolutions, the GPU is a lot more stressed that the CPU, therefore the CPU becomes bottlenecked by the GPU. At high resolutions, the Q9550 and an i7 will perform almost identically.

And if you're Q9550's not overclocked, do it!

Ya, I got 24" Samsung running everything at 1920x1200 and another Samsung at 1600x1200, so dual Monitors are in effect. The Q9550 is OC'ed to 3.3 currently from stock 2.8.
Thanx for the info, that makes me happy.
