I think the 'Maximum Memory' is always motherboard-based, Acer wouldn't assume you'd be running Starter on it. We've got some Aspire Ones (older with the 8GB SSD AND the new ones with 1.66 atoms) and the maximum Acer tell us to put in them (even with Windows 7 Ultimate and/or Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) s 2GB.
