Windows Media Center - Video Questions

Just setup my new Windows Media Center system (HP7177C) and have a few questions regarding the TV/Video/DVD functionality in the Windows Media center..........

1. I have been recording TV movies and burning them on DVD and have encountered intermittent errors when doing so. All it says is WMC has encountered an error. How are you supposed to know what to do or fix without some sort of information? It gets several hours into the process and then I get this error. I've burned several discs without problems but intermittently recieve this error.
2. Is there any easier way to burn DVD's of TV programs? The WMC version takes several hours to complete as it's also converting from ".dvr-ms" format to the ".VOB" format.
3. Is there a way to edit the ".dvr-ms" format (like editing out comercials)?
4. Any other recommedations of working with the video files are greatly appreciated!
