Wiping HD's

Ok,

I have 2 computers that run Windows XP and one that runs Windows ME(ATM). I've also got 3 HD's that I'd like to wipe and use as slave drives. My question now is how do I wipe the HD's?

When all the drives are installed, just open up my computer, right click on the drive you want to "wipe" and press format, ("wipe") - done!

And if I "wipe" them with the ME PC can I move it to one of the XP's and it still work?
