Question Windows XP Service Pack 2

On this computer only, whenever XP Service Pack 2 is downloaded the monitor will only display 4 bit colouring (just 16 colours!) Is this a problem which has occured elsewhere? Is there any way of solving it so that this computer can accept the XP Service Pack 2 without any malfunctions?

Thank you.

have you tried adjusting the color depth in display properties? also, is the resolution stuck at 640x480?

Please post your specs, because it its an older dell or gateway, they do not support service pack 2, if you install them, it basicly corrupts the computer, and sometimes it works, most of the time it doesnt, because one bug of it on a older dell or gateway is 4bit color, or really slow.
