Default Windows xp home...

Has older versions of windows xp home been known to freeze when atemping to update?

Well....no. The newest version I believe is version 2002.....so if it did freeze during updates....they would have fixed that up fairly fast....plus we all know how much microsoft bothers you to get those goddamn updates. its your PC

yeah it's jus that m computer is still givimg me problems with freezing and now I'm thinking it's the OS, keeps freezing when I try and update it. Plus I think it's a 200 version I'm not sure.

Done that about 5 different times (that mroe then 5 hours of reformatting)

activekill....wipes ur hard drive completely....than install windows like its a new hard drive.

They're a difference from Wiping the hard drive and reformatting it?
Dont they both get rid of all the data anyways?

Well, data is always left behind....unless you wipe it. Burn activekill to a floppy and boot it up and then try...if you've reformatted 5 times...its at least worth a try.
