If I remember correctly, with Windows ME you can't restart in Dos. The easiest way to format the hard drive (if you decide to do so) is to put the XP CD in and restart. When the computer is booting up, you should see a prompt that says "press any key to boot from CD...." Press any key and a blue screen will come up saying that it is starting Windows. From there just follow the instructions and it will get to a point where it asks how you want to format the partition. Do NTFS.

what you have to do is to, go to the CMOS in the POST (by puching DEL or F1 and set your boot sequece to the CD rom
then reset then it will begin you to the windows installer.

note this is after you have back-ed up everthing simple as that. OK ?
