Windows Vista Readboost

I have windows vista and everytime i plug my USB stick in it says do you want to you windows ready boost now what is it?

Basically it acts as a buffer so it can store things in it that it needs to access quicker than the hard drive. Not really necessary if you have 1 GB or more of memory.

its basically more RAM, but its much slower than normal RAM, but its also faster than your HDD.

Yeah. From my experiences it hasn't really helped that much, but there's some information from Microsoft themselves available here:

On desktop PCs, it helps but I feel the boost isn't as significant as it would be on a laptop (I guess it's because of slower RAM in my laptop). I had an older Compaq laptop that's noticeably faster with a USB drive with 1G ReadyBoost cache. It's not an instant speedup, of course but it helps is a system under memory pressure. If your system bogs down during operation because you're running a number of apps and the OS is swapping, then ReadyBoost will help.

I used it when I had vista and it actually worked pretty well. It didn't speed up the computer entirely but helped loading times. I only have a 512MB flash drive and used half of it but it still worked out pretty well.
