can I install windows Vista Home premium Edition to a partition of my external 250 Gigabyte hardrive?Could i set it up so that when my computer starts up I would get a list Saying Win XP pro and win vista Premium and which ever OS I select that one would boot up?

Depends if your motherboard supports booting to USB.

The easiest way to choose OSes would be to just put whichever drive first in the boot order.

Why not buy another HDD and run it as a slave for your OS, How much space does Vista Use?

40gb is easily enough for XP and vista, unless he is storing loads of crap on it. Ive got a 60gb drive in my laptop thats got 3 partitions. 1 for XP, 1 for vista, and a storage partition, the storage one is 30gb.
