Default Windows Movie Maker

Hi,
I have a few files in MPEG format and i'm trying to use Windows Movie Maker to edit the commercials, etc. When I import the tv show, I can't see the video, I can only hear the video. Does the movie maker not support MPEG format? Do I have to convert it to WMV or something?

If you have the codec installed, you should be able to import the video. Can you play it in windows media player?

I downloaded codecs but it still won't work. And it does play on regular windows media player...but not on movie maker.
