Default Windows media player question

I have some WMA files that whenever i try to open them I get the error:

The file you are trying to play does not match the file format playing the file may result in unexpected behavior. Do you still want to play.

I click yes. And then it says windows can not play the file player may not support it.

The file extention says .wma.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sometimes have this error when trying to play from an external device even though Windows Media Player is meant to play them.

Instead of double clicking on them. Try to right click them and select Play. Any difference?
