Default Windows Media Player Hangs

hey there,

I've just recently done a format and reload on one of my machines and so it's now time to add all my music and films to the Windows Media Player library. I hit F3 to begin the search in media player and point it to one of the drives where all my media is stored, then the search begins. The only problem is that no matter what search option i select (all, new files only etc...) the search always seems to hang at 13% with 1309 files added at that point. Now this would be ok but there's about another 8500 items still to be added. Any ideas as to why it keeps hanging? can you only add a certain amount of files at a time?

I'm running XPSP2 which is fully updated on an AthlonXP 2800, 768mb ram, 720gb storage. If it makes any difference these drives are also shared on the network. The problem is still there if i try to add media files from either of the 3 drives.
