Default windows media player codec HELP

Ok, i have this project for school that is due tuesday, and i would like to play some videos for the class, but everytime i try to play videos on window media player i get this message: Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

What should i do???

open windows media player and go to Tools -> Options -> Player Tab -> and check the box that says "Download Codecs Automatically.

EDIT: if you can't find the tools button, open windows media player and right click the top of windows media player and find the tools button that way. hope this helps
