Windows ME microsoft word font problems

I am trying to help my nieghbor out, and she is having a problem with microsft word office Xp. She has windows ME, and evertime she starts word, all the fonts are gone except 2. But if she goes into C:/Windows/fonts or something like that, and starts the fonts up and than restarts word, it works, all the fonts are back. But if she restarts the computer its back to the way it is. Its a wierd problem, but I thought I'd try and help.

has she tried replacing the fonts from the cd (if thats possible). may have just become corrupted. ME does suck, it doesnt need a reason to mess up

She said she didnt do anything to change it. Except her duaghter did scan some images in.
