"wmplayer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience." This also displays for the explorer.exe. and when i just tried it again it while exploring one of the hard disks it displaye " The instruction a 0x0000000 referenced memory at 0x0000000. The memory could not be "read".
ok to terminate the program
cancel to debug the program.
when i click the ok it restarts the whole explorer program and i lose everything i see at that time. note: i aslo have installed windows vista one one of the drives but hardly use it if this makes any diffrence. Thanks!!

Nice DSL box!
Network Adapter AVM FRITZ!Box Fon
can't beat high-end Germany goods

With regard to the problem, try and free up some space on your drives.
Then uninstall/reinstall/update Media Player.
Is the machine fully patched/updated?

sirMille i will update or install and uninstall media player but how do you explain win explorer? I will see about any patches. but will give you an answer in a few days cuz im pretty buzy these days and will do this when i get a chance. As far as service pack 2 CompMan when i did it last time before i formated the drive i had some probs with a couple of games i think and some some msgs on compatability so i'd rather not go there just yet although not ruleing totaly against it. I will install sp2 if all else fails then perhaps format again.

OK, it actually sounds like a memory problem. As it is actually having problems reading and writing from memory addresses.

Have you had any brownout or blackouts lately? Lightening storms etc.
Or have you changed your memory configuration lately?

I'd download a memory testing program such as Memtest 86 and give it a good going through. Or try, if you can get a hold of some, other memory.

Let us know how re-installing media player and running a memory test does.

EDIT:

Just a thought, looking through your specs, you seem to have very little space left on your C: drive. I'd recommend you move your swap file to another drive/partition with more free space and also try making space on your c: drive by archiving files elsewhere and uninstalling unused programs. I'd do this regardless of your problem anyway as it gives Windows and that partition a bit more room to breath and could give you a small performance boost. (espcially if that volume is heavily fragmented).

You have way too much going on not to take advantage of that setup. Your C: drive should never be that cluttered up. You don't even have enough room left on that drive to defrag. Let me suggest using>>>
CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
FindJunkFiles http://www.majorgeeks.com/Find_Junk_Files_d1953.html
AdAware www.filehippo.com Get version 1.06
Wise Reg Cleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wise_Regis...ner_d5437.html
Did this problem start when you installed vista on the other drive?
And according to the update site there are no updates for SP1 anymore just for SP2.
