Default Windows 3.1 problems

I dont know all the specifics yet, but my friend just got a laptop form his g-pa and when he boots up, he gets a message saying programming missing or something like that, he said he needs a DOS disk. Is this the problem? if so, is there a place where you can download what you need? if you need any more info, ask...i'll ask him, cause he was in a hurry when he told me

Or find the DOS disk that came with it and plug it in. Or ditch the PC for a new oen, 3.1 sucks big hairy balls.
