Default win2k and microsoft office

i installed microsoft office 97 on my win2k machine. after the install i could open all the apps that came with it except for word, excel and access. it gave the error message "Please run setup again from the location you installed it." i tried typical install and full install and i was logged in as the admin. any ideas. could it be a program conflict? thanks for help
