Will my mic not work though the input jacks? (vista)

So my headset has two input jacks. One mic, one speakers. And I got the speaker one to work, but I can not get my mic to work. I installed the realtek HD drivers, but I can't get the mic to work. Under sound and recording I have the "Line In" checked.

Was just wondering if I can use my mic with the input jacks since the USB connector that they hooked up to broke.

you should be able to by any chance it isnt muted on the volume adjuster is it? there is usually a mute switch below the volume adjuster on the wire coming from your headset check and make sure that is on. Also make sure that the mic isn't muted in your realtek program.
