ur friend might be right, according to the link page, the game ur buying comes with the half life 2 source.

That package will work for you, you do not need half-life2 in order to play.

But it doesn't come with Half-Life 2 Source, it comes with Half-Life 2 Deathmatch and Day of Defeat Source.
