Default Wifi disconnect when trying to transfer large files

I have a dell adamo 13. intel wi-fi link 5300 card. Whenever i try to transfer a large file >300MB over the wifi, the wifi disconnects and file transfer stops. Wifi generally works fine. this problem does not occur on any other laptops in my house.
Help would be appreciated
I have the latest drivers

I've seen this once before where an antivirus/firewall was getting in the way of larger file transfers. What happens when you disable the machine's anti virus and firewall?
