Default why is explorer hogging my pc?

as the title says explorer app is taking up 75-85% of cpu. not when i start but if i open a few files and then use photoshop it spikes and stays high even after i close all windows. any ideas on what's going on?

Most likely because you are opening a folder or file. These simple processes usually use explorer.exe. A virus or spyware maybe. Do a scan.
