Default while googling a question someone asked on this board, I stumbled upon this...

all Nvidia G84 and G86s are bad

here's a breakdown of affected cards (ones with a * are laptop GPUs)...

G84:

- Quadro FX 1700
- 8700M GT *
- 8600M GS *
- 8600M GT *
- 8600 GTS
- 8600 GT

G86:

- 8400 GS
- 8400M G *
- 8400M GS *
- 8400M GT *
- 8500 GT

luckily for me I have an 8500GT AND an 8600GT...

...

If this is true, it may be about time to buy one of those bad GFX cards. If they do a recall, they will probably ship you the next highest model that is stable.

So, if you buy an 8600, you might get an 8800 for the price of an 8600.

Whichever way it turns out, it's going to cost Nvidia a lot of money, something they could do without right now.

Plus, they just got sued by the one, and only, RAMBUS.

RAMBUS have patents on pretty much everything.

Just Google it, you'll see.
