Im still learning so don't flame me. heres a picture of my motherboard:

its my understanding that the processor is physically located underneath the fan on the mobo and underneath the heatsink. is this right?

ok, and so...

How do you get the fan off the top of the processor? and isnt the heatsink the thing right below the processor? not ontop of it?

On the socket there should be a brown plastic or metal lever, that you lift up about 90 degrees, and the processor should be free. Good Luck!

ok, take the fan off, then there are 2 clip things on the side of the big metal heatsink, unclip em and that is how u release the heatsink, the cpu is undernieth, once u get taht off there is a brown or silver bar next to the socket(the white thing with the metal chip in it), pull the bar up and the cpu should come out, when u put the cpu back in make sure u have the arrow on the chip, and the arrow on the socket in the same spot, the cpu should just fit rite in, then you put the bar back down and reverse what u did, have fun

Do you want to change your processor? to a faster one. Yes be very careful and don't change it in a environnement where there is magnitism or static electricity, and don't force anything, and primarily, always make sure your PC is disconnected!

your motherboard is Intel and the CPU you chosen is AMD, so no, it won't work.

nooooooooooooo!!!! That is AMD!!! You have a P4 motherboard!! That is like mating a Dog and a Parrot, it doesn't work. They are completely different processor companies altogether mayor. Here is what you need:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-155&depa=1

That P4 will serve you well. Very fast, and has HT on iit, and will be a big improvement!
