Default Re: When to upgrade?

So understanding this, and comparing the E6600 to the E6700, why is it that most people prefer E6600? Lately i have seen a thread with a person owning an alienware and having an E6700 and rather than the E6600, so what is the main difference?

The E6700 is the same thing as a E6600 just clocked 266mhz faster and running a 10x multiplier instead of 9x. It has the same Cache, FSB rating etc. The thing is when you start overclocking the E6600 can go just as high as a E6700 can. So its a waste of money unless you plan on running it at factory settings.

Example Intel has a quota to meet. Say they need 10,000 E6600 processors for a shipment. Problem is they only have 3,000. Guess what 7,000 E6700's just became E6600's.

Its true Intels major price cuts will be in affect July 22nd. Here's a link:

Ya I just saw that in another link. I looked at newegg and there like $480 now. Last time I looked they were still $900 and I think that was around a month ago. Freaking crazy how the price's drop. O well gotta love it.

So there is almost nothing superior for E6700 to E6600 and guess E6600's are better to overclock.

no all they have to do is change the clock multiplier down so the clocks are the same. you can see this done sometimes when your "E6600" might show up as a "E6700" but i dont think there identified by anything else expect default speeds. on everest home my OCed chip shows up as a 5200+ because of its new speed.

and some lucky people get enigineer editions of there CPU because of pure dumb luck which to most people can OC MUCH better
