Did you go into msconfig and tone down the startup programs? Unclick all except anything from the Windows folder, any antivirus/firewall etc., and any drivers. Let me know what you come up with.

This is what I use to help detect extremely extremely pesky virus's and spyware thats typically rootkitted.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...k/Filemon.mspx

This graphically displays EXACTLY what is using your hard drive. I recomend shutting down programs like IM's and Virus scanners as they will cause alot of enteries.

What OS do you run? Vista here. With the sidebar, antivirus, email notify, and messenger.

But a lot of those are Asus related programs, so it is probably best to leave them there, so nothing happens. It is probably indexing that it is just doing. Mine does the same thing sometimes. Another thing to try is to go into Disk Defragmenter and see if it is defragging in the background at that time. That will also give you the opportunity to remove it from running automatically.
