What would be the better upgrade?

Alright, I have some money to upgrade my pc, budget $450-500, and I wanna see some toughts from you guys on the following choices. Not for gaming, I just wanna have an overall faster computer. Also, If you have any other suggestions, they are very welcome. .

Definitely the E6600, it was a huge upgrade from an X2 3800+ to it, you'll see almost as much of a difference.

Yeah definately the first one...But I personally don't like Gigabytes if you plan on overclocking...sure they handle it but they don't give anywhere near as many options as other brands do..just my 2 cents

defiantly the first one. having 4 gigs of ram could create problems. besides. if you look at super pi times for the E6600, they are about 3x faster then your current system.

u cant fully utilize 4 gbs of ram unless u use 64 bit operating system

Go with the first setup. I'm guessing you'll use the ram in your sig so that should work fine but you may want to make sure its compatible with the motherboard your getting. Other than that 2gb's current should be more than enough unless your thinking of going to vista. Then I may recommend 4gigs sure it will run decent on 2gigs but it uses almost 800megs leaving you 1.2gbs free roughly.

i agree with the first one but if he isnt gaming then i doubt you will ever need a E6600 unless you rip DVD's edit video or other CPU intensive things. i cant get over the new dual core brisbanes yet

with that lil guy you could almost afford both packages. it doesnt give off as much as performance as the E6600 NO WAY! but its a good chip cheap too and if you buy a good mobo and ram you can OC it up to 3ghz
