Default What is it with rar files?

I have the worst luck with these files! Tried downloading a free program called Zipeg but it is completely useless. Then I tried WinRaR and I keep getting an error saying it can't locate the volume....huh? I checked the file path and it is correct so I am at a total loss!!!! Are RAR files that hard to extract? I have worked with zipped files for years with no difficulty! Would appreciate any ideas.

I bet the problem lies within the archives themselves, and not the software

How many files have you tried? As the the poster above me said,it's probably the archive itself.

if you download a bunch of split rar files, and some of them go missing that can mess up the overall extraction.
id say it was just dodgy rar files in this case, no software problems

Thanks for your responses. I noticed any .rar files I had on my computer previous to installing WinRAR would not extract correctly. The files I downloaded after the program was installed extracted flawlessly. I just overwrote the previous files and it seems to have solved the problem.
