What RAM should I get

Hi. I recently ordered parts for my new computer. Included, are an AMD Athlon X2 3800, an eVGA 7800GT, and an eVGA nForce4 SLI motherboard . Actually, I have ordered every single part of my system, except for the ram. My board has 4 184-pin slots of dual-channel ddr.

I am going to be using my computer for downloading and gaming, which leads me to believe I should get two gigs of ram, since games like FEAR and BF2 run much smoother as opposed to one gig.

Any suggestions?
Much appreciated.

How much can you spend on ram? my choice would be, of course, OCZ, but they are expensive, especially in the 2gb section. Geil makes some good ram, too, along with corsair. My choices are: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145509

If you need help picking from these, just post and we can help.

Edit: you live in woodland hills. there's a fry's there, compusa, best buy, and a circuit city, all in one little area. If I were you, before I buy from newegg, I would go look around and see if there are any good deals there first. I live in your area, so that's how I know... lol...

I can spend at the most two-hundred bucks... the reason why I was debating 1 vs 2 gigs was because I could always upgrade, but I heard that AMD's suck with four 512's as opposed to two one gigabyte sticks.

Before I had gotten my motherboard, I had picked up 2 gigs of corsair value for 120 bucks after rebate. Problem is, that ram was 240 pin, and my motherboard only supports 184, so im going to have to return them (

I am debating between Corsair XMS , OCZ Gold, and Geil Value. I heard that the Corsair has amazing overclocking abilities, allowing it to run a third faster and staying stable at the same time, but I dont know if I even need to overclock... I mean, does timing really make a noticeable difference with two gigs of ram?

Thanks.

At the moment, yes and no. With the BF2, etc. yes. But normally, not really. In the future, yes. I would get 2g's, honestly. It'll be good for the future.

Alright, so we've taken care of the size... which leads us to the timing. Does timing make a great difference? And if so, how much more would you pay for the best timing versus value timing. Much appreciated.

well timings affect how quickly ram is accessed ect but i dont really see how someone could tell the difference between 3ms and 2ms, i would go with that OCZ ram u posted, having 2gigs of ram doesnt just make a diff in gaming it also makes windows stop using page file which makes your whole comp go a lot faster

So like, the OCZ's timing of 3-3-3-8 would be very similar to that of the Corsair XMS (2-3-2-6). The Corsair is about ten dollars more, but I heard that OCZ refuses all the rebates that are sent in ;o(.

Also, is it a bad idea to get 512 sticks when using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800? I heard that something about memory taxing on your system makes it practically worthless(?) Thanks.

ide go with geil or corsair xms because they come with heat spreaders which actually make a difference.
