I use AVG-home for Virus scanning and removal but it's not free.
However, CCleaner is a great program for cleaning up system folders and the registry. Install it and run a good sweep. Let us know if this does/doesn't fix the issue.

Typically $persi0.sys is a file associated with a program called Deep Freeze. There are a few instances where it has been known to be part of a trojan. Is this your computer?

If it's a trojan, try running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
