What GPU do I get

Don't know why, but I think you might have jumped on a bandwagon that technically shouldn't exist. Any and EVERY GPU, once you fill the MAIN memory buffer up, will have that exact same issue. Go ahead and fill a 2GB memory buffer up on a 980Ti, and have it start offloading extra textures to the shared RAM, it's gonna slow down just as much.

No, not an nvidia fanboy, rather like AMD, but, I do know the 970 is a capable card for most people.

It's not a huge issues anyway if I'm honest, it doesn't seem to drop the framerate a great deal to be honest. At 1080p you're really not going to have problems witha GTX 970, it has that much spare performance that it's worth it.

imho the AMD cards are decent value, but require a stupid amount of power and generate a lot of heat. Once you've factored it in, it really becomes a false economy, especially if you end up purchasing a new PSU.
